WEEK 3/4 3rd Idea: Research, Meeting between coffee and people: cafe, coffee house, bar.

Idea: Meeting between coffee and people

To create a café/bar, suitable for the public on Clyde Quay, Wellington Waterfront. I have decided to do my project on café and bars specifically because it fits the ‘atea’ aspect ideally and from recent research is a great ‘meeting spot.’ cafe is a small of restaurant which serves coffee and and light snacks. The term "cafe" comes from France which “coffee". Cafes sometimes share the same characteristics as a bar, and in some cases, a restaurant. I am aiming for a café that serves light takeaway meals but can also be considered as a bar, serving alcoholic drinks.
Some positive reasons for cafes,
-Having a café readily available close to or in the office building may end up shortening the employees' lunch breaks, if the employees frequently leave the office to eat
-A great place ‘small’ to meet for almost anything, from group school word to interviews for a future job, a date or a ‘quick hangover fix.’
-Serves quick, fast easy food and coffee on the go, or even a drink if you’re winding down from a hard day labouring or in the office.

Research on other modern cafes/bars to look back on while making / developing 'The Boat Cafe'

WEEK 3: 2nd/3rd Idea: Material Detail. Using timber, tools and card to create a 'restuarant waiting number.' Also selected drawing

Basic idea on creating the cafe number
I took a visit to Bunnings Warehouse to collect some timber, A base 2x4 piece and a 12mm dowelling. Using the belt sander to create the round ball shape base, drilling an 11mm hole in the centre ready to fit the rod.
By drilling the hole 11mm, the 12mm dowelling was able to fit tight and flush in the base. By hack sawing an average saw width slit, this was able to create a holder for the card number.

Finished product.
