WEEK 6: 4th idea, another attempt at cry engine & final rationale

I followed the sketch up to cry engine tutorial as accurate as I can, but after 5 attempts to export my model in to cry engine, this was all that i could generate.

Quick Rationale:

After 6 weeks of 100 level spacial design I was able to come up with 4 different meeting ideas and use the boat shed space to design the specifications of these specific ideas. My first given idea was 'business meeting people' (to create a simple office space). My second given idea was 'mouth meeting food' (to create a restaurant space). My third given idea was 'coffee meeting mouth' (to create a cafe or coffee house space). My forth and final idea was 'people meeting chairs' or 'people and sitting' (to create a chair orientated space, which I then chose a stadium orientated design). I was able to meet all specifications that were given in the brief and have completed all the weeks deliverables + more. From the first week to the 6th you are able to clearly see the change in skill and design ideas developed.

WEEK 5: 4th and final Idea: Select an idea that you will work on through weeks 5 and 6.

Brainstorming and research:

Meeting between people and chairs/ humans and ergonomics, why do we sit? A chair is a piece of furniture with a raised surface used to sit on, depending on the chair; it can fit 1 or more people. Chairs are generally supported by four legs and have a back: however, chairs have a branch of different designs including stools, benches, saddles, car seats, theatre seats, couches, lazy boys, recliners, swings. We use chairs mainly for comfortability and a place to rest.

Alternative ideas;

1. Gambling/entertainment rooms, poker.
2. Small business meeting area.
3. Study area and or library.
4. Stadium / entertainment area
5. Cinema.

Idea:

Sitting at the Boat Sheds, why? How can this relate to the space in the boat sheds? My last idea is the combination of a cinema and a stadium. Premium location of the waterfront, a great place to meet, relax, look and enjoy the entertainment of ‘boating’ and the summer sun. My initial idea is to use the boat shed space to construct a stadium/cinema like area, which is facing the water.

Types of chairs

Which are most suitable for this idea? a quick brainstorm on what to consider;
  • Comfortability?
  • Ergonomics?
  • Durability?
  • Weatherproof?
  • Will it be inside or outside?
  • Placement/locations of the seats
  • Entertainment?
  • Aesthetics?
  • Events?
  • Food/drink?
  • Fixed or unfixed?
  • Raised or flat?

WEEK 3/4 3rd Idea: Research, Meeting between coffee and people: cafe, coffee house, bar.

Idea: Meeting between coffee and people

To create a café/bar, suitable for the public on Clyde Quay, Wellington Waterfront. I have decided to do my project on café and bars specifically because it fits the ‘atea’ aspect ideally and from recent research is a great ‘meeting spot.’ cafe is a small of restaurant which serves coffee and and light snacks. The term "cafe" comes from France which “coffee". Cafes sometimes share the same characteristics as a bar, and in some cases, a restaurant. I am aiming for a café that serves light takeaway meals but can also be considered as a bar, serving alcoholic drinks.
Some positive reasons for cafes,
-Having a café readily available close to or in the office building may end up shortening the employees' lunch breaks, if the employees frequently leave the office to eat
-A great place ‘small’ to meet for almost anything, from group school word to interviews for a future job, a date or a ‘quick hangover fix.’
-Serves quick, fast easy food and coffee on the go, or even a drink if you’re winding down from a hard day labouring or in the office.

Research on other modern cafes/bars to look back on while making / developing 'The Boat Cafe'
